In my opinion...

Time is flowing. It never stops. Time is perhaps the only constant thing in life. Time, however, is an illusion. It is typically categorized into the past, present, and future, but in reality they are all the same thing. Allow me to explain.

First, one must understand that time progressing is just things becoming more chaotic. (Yes, this is a simple version of chaos theory, or entropy.) For example, moving forward through time, if you were to drop a cup on the ground it would shatter into dozens of pieces. The cup has become more chaotic, time has gone forward. To go back in time would be to make things less chaotic, to "unbreak" the cup. As of now this sort of time travel is not possible. Lets pretend for a minute though that it is.

Affecting anything in the past is impossible. Say you want to go back in time and kill the notorious Hitler. So you build a time machine, go back to the 40's, and shoot him dead while he's making a speech. Well now, in 2002 (your real time) Hitler has been dead for 60 years, so you had no reason to go back in time and shoot him-- which means he isn't dead. It's a paradox, but basically all it means is that if time travel was possible, we'd only be able to OBSERVE the past, but it is impossible to AFFECT anything. And now for the theory.

We can all pretty much agree that the present isn't really a "time", it's just the name for now, which is always changing. The past cant be affected, so as soon as something happens, it happens for good. It can't be made less chaotic. This bumps us forward through time, moment to moment. The future, however, can be affected. So for that reason the future is unknown, and the future is what we travel into as your unaffectable past bumps our present along the train track of time. Got it? Probably not, this is hella confusing. Lets try to simplify it.

"Now" will soon happen, ack, it just happened, and now it is the past. When now was still "soon to happen" it was the future. Now could have been anything, you could have affected it. You could have done a jumping jack or decided to fall out of your computer chair, or keep reading these amazing words. Then suddenly "now" hit and it was the moment you existed in (you chose to keep reading). Then suddenly, as instantly as the other transition, "now" became the past. It could no longer be changed, it was done. It could not be affected anymore so it was given the illusion of being "gone". The illusion of time is generated. Time progresses.

So kiddies, what have we learned? Well, you clearly cannot change the past. You are the masters of your fate. Blah blah blah, I don't feel like being inspirational, just informative. Good day.
